CAMBODIA: "Khmer Craft Ceramics" Risograph Print

£15.00

In rural Cambodia you’ll find all sorts of Khmer craftspeople busying their hands with traditional crafts like mangowood carving, weaving and hand throwing ceramics from the rich red Cambodian clay.

A Khmer Potter's Tale: Crafting Cambodian Magic 🏺

Let's take a stroll into the heart of Cambodia through this humble 25cm square risograph print. Here, I've tried my best to capture the magic of Khmer ceramics in a style reminiscent of a grainy postage stamp. Imagine a Khmer craftswoman, wrapped in traditional green Cambodian dress, skillfully shaping a pot on a warm, dusty day surrounded by lush tropical greenery.

Cultural Harmony:

Khmer people, known for their rich history and cultural tapestry, have perfected the art of ceramics. This print pays homage to the craft, a skill passed down through generations, blending tradition with the vibrant spirit of Cambodian life.

🌿🧡 Technical Details:

Illustrated by me, Rhi Moxon, this eco-friendly print uses soy-based inks on recycled paper, a nod to sustainable practices in crafting a visual tribute to Khmer artistry.

A Glimpse of Tradition:

The scene unfolds with vibrant red clay, symbolic of the Cambodian landscape, and a profusion of tropical plants. The craftswoman wears a circular wicker hat, a cultural emblem offering shade from the tropical sun.

Handcrafted Marvels:

Adding charm to the foreground are handmade ceramic animals—a turtle, elephant, and fox—a testament to the Khmer people's mastery in pottery, where each piece tells a story.

Fun Fact:

The Khmer people are renowned for their architectural marvel, Angkor Wat, but their creativity extends to pottery, showcasing intricate designs and vibrant colours that mirror the country's rich cultural history.
